Downtown Covina

Downtown Covina represents a unique opportunity for retailers and restaurants with an entertainment orientation. The newly restored Covina Center for the Performing Arts is the crown jewel of the Downtown, a multi-million dollar private sector investment in Downtown's role as a regional destination. Retailers with a Gen-Y orientation have proven their ability to draw 18 to 30 year olds from a super-regional area. Clothing, collectibles, bookstores, music, markets, and home furnishings round out the retail environment.

While vacancy rates tend to be low, newly restored historic buildings continue to become available with retail spaces in the 1,500 square foot to 8,000-square foot range. Transit-oriented and smart growth policies permit new developments with heights of up to 50 feet. Small development sites of up to two acres are available.

Unique dining and other entertainment venues complete the picture. The main street of Covina's Downtown mixes fine and casual dining with entertainment venues that include live theater, acoustic musical performances, rock and roll and blues, in addition to restaurants with a variety of live music including salsa and tejano music. Most coffee and light meal venues offer outdoor dining.

The Redevelopment Agency, the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association work to attract a unique mix of merchants targeted to an affluent and urban customer base.

Downtown is also the destination of choice for special events from the weekly Friday certified Farmer's Market to NHRA-sponsored car shows and an annual blues festival. Nearby Covina Park offers a family-based entertainment series each summer as well as an annual music festival. Bluesapalooza/Thunderfest draws over 20,000 people to Downtown. Downtown is also the service area for the medical and professional office campus associated with the Citrus Valley Medical Center – Inter-Community Campus. This comprehensive 222-bed, full-service health care facility offers a wide range of medical, surgical and specialty services. Major features at this campus include a 14-bed Cardiac Care Unit, a 40-bed Definitive Observation Unit, diagnostic cardiology and nuclear medicine departments, a Chest Pain Emergency Unit and a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Other specialty areas include a comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Civic Center for the City of Covina is also located in the Downtown. The hospital, its supporting developments, and the Civic Center represent significant generators of daytime population for the Downtown.
